In recent weeks several postings have appeared on the AAO-HNS blog regarding the American Board of Otolaryngology (ABOto) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. The following communication is an effort to inform our diplomats of the rationale for MOC, its current structure and our focused efforts to achieve the goals of ensuring that our patients receive the best and safest care possible through fostering high standards of professionalism and life long learning.

The mission of the American Board of Otolaryngology (ABOto) is to assure the public that, via its process of certification and lifelong maintenance of certification, its diplomates have met the ABOto’s professional standards of training and knowledge in otolaryngology – head and neck surgery.
